Blaze injures Covington firefighters
Two Covington firefighters were treated at the hospital
Friday afternoon for injuries they suffered while fighting a noon blaze
at a Scott Street medical massage business.
The fire broke out about 11:40 a.m. on the first floor of 713 Scott St.,
fire officials said. The two-story brick structure houses Relaxing
Moments Medical Massage on its first floor, however, firefighters said
no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
Fire officials said two firefighters were treated at the hospital and
released after they suffered back and neck injuries. Both are expected
to recover, officials said.
The fire was quickly brought under control, but fire officials said
flames did about $40,000 damage to the building, which is valued at
$79,500, according to Kenton County property records.
Firefighters believe the flames first erupted in the rear of the first
floor, but damage extended to the second floor and attic. Minor damage
was also done to a neighboring building at 715 Scott St., fire officials
said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The structure is owned by Johnson Properties, Inc., according to
property records. That business is operated by local real estate
developer L. Esther Johnson, according to the Kentucky Secretary of
State's office.
